Gretchen was the recipient of the 2000, 2001, and 2002 Alpha Psi Omega Best Choreography Award from Winthrop University. In 2006 she was one of eight selected to study at the Jacob’s Pillow Choreographer’s Lab. She is the co-founder of Sinergismo, a multi-disciplinary collaborative performance ensemble comprised of professional dancers, visual artists, poets and musicians on a mission to make innovative and inspiring art. Sinergismo was founded in 2002 and over the last twenty years the ensemble has worked with over a dozen collaborating artists. Gretchen has helped produce and choreograph over thirty original pieces for Sinergismo, performing in various venues/festivals throughout the Southeast such as the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, McColl Center for Arts and Innovation, 701 Contemporary Art Center, BOOM Charlotte Festival, North Carolina Dance Festival, Discovery Place, and the Democratic National Convention.
Gretchen has been a teacher at the Charlotte Ballet Academy since 2004. She has been teaching modern at Davidson College for sixteen years and serves as a mentor to their student run dance company, The Gamut. Gretchen also teaches weekly dance classes for special needs adults and seniors. She has been the lead Dance for Parkinson’s teacher at Charlotte Ballet for the past five years.
